Young Voices of Loudoun County Short Story Contest

The Young Voices of Loudoun County Short Story Contest, sponsored by Community Voice  Media, LLC is open to all students residing in Loudoun County in grades K -12, including Public Schools, Private Schools and Home Schools.

First, Second and Third Place awards will be offered in each of three categories:
                        High School Level
                        Middle School Level
                        Elementary School Level

An Entry Fee of $20.00 must accompany EACH entry.  Students may enter as many times as they wish. (Fee assitance is available if needed. Contact Community Voice Media, LLC for details.)

Note: For families with more than one student entering this contest – a discount of 20% is offered on entry fees for additional child or children. Ex:

            First Child:        Fees $20.00/per entry

            Second Child    $16.00/per entry

            Additional Child or Children: $16.00/per entry

Entries must be original and previously unpublished. Technical ability must be consistent with grade level. Obvious re-writing by an adult will result in disqualification. Entry fees WILL NOT BE REFUNDED for disqualified entries.

Each entry must be accompanied by a cover page bearing the author's name, address, telephone number, email and category entered. 

Entry must not exceed 1500 words.  

Entries containing violent and/or sexually explicit material are not considered appropriate for this contest and will not be considered.

Entry must be written in English.

Acceptable manuscript format is double-spaced on one side of 8.5" x 11" paper, with 1" to 1.25" margins, 24-26 lines per page. Submission title should appear in the upper left-hand corner, page number in the upper right-hand corner. Author's name MUST NOT appear anywhere on the entry.  Author's name on the manuscript WILL result in immediate disqualification.  Entry fee will not be returned.

Entry must contain the following:

1. One signed entry form with waiver for EACH manuscript entered. Entry forms may be printed from this web site or by contacting Bobbi Carducci via e-mail at bobbi@bobbicarducci.com   Entry forms MAY be photocopied. 

2. One copy of manuscript and one disk or CD (rich text format only) with cover page for EACH entry.  Disk or CD must be labeled as follows: Author's last name and story title, saved as: Ex: Carducci/Once Upon a Time in Round Hill. Saved as: Rich Text Format

3.  Check or money order in the correct amount based on fee guidelines made out to Community Voice Media, LLC.  Entrants may submit one check in the correct amount for multiple entries. 

Entries must be postmarked by January 30, 2007

Submissions are to be sent by regular mail service only. DO NOT send entry by any method that requires a signature upon delivery. Any manuscript sent in this manner will be refused. 

If you want confirmation that your entry has been received, include a postage paid, self addressed post card with your entry packet. 

Entries will not be returned, it is important that you maintain a copy for your files.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at a local venue; date and time to be determined. Information about the event will be made public via press release and on the Community Voice Media website.

Writing Awards

First Place in each category - $200.00

Second Place in each category - $125.00

Third Place in each category -$75.00

All participating students will receive an achievement medal and certificate of achievement in recognition of their contest entry.

The best entries in each category will be published in an upcoming anthology titled:

Young Voices of Loudoun County  Volume II
